The John Deere X370 Lawn Tractor with 42-Inch Deck is a premium residential riding mower designed for dependable cutting performance, easy maneuverability, and year-round property maintenance. It combines a 21.5 HP Kawasaki V-Twin engine, power steering, hydraulic mower-deck lift, hydrostatic drive, and a versatile 42-inch Accel Deep™ cutting deck.

Power is supplied by a Kawasaki FR651V V-Twin engine with a displacement of 726cc, or 44.3 cubic inches. John Deere incorporates this engine into its iTorque™ Power System, which combines engine performance and tractor design features to provide strong lugging ability, effective cooling, and reliable operation under changing mowing loads.

The air-cooled, overhead-valve engine features cast-iron cylinder liners, full-pressure lubrication, a replaceable oil filter, and a dual-stage air cleaner. These components support dependable operation, cleaner engine oil, and longer service life during regular residential use. A no-tools oil-drain system also simplifies routine oil changes.

A regulated 12-amp charging system helps keep the 12-volt battery charged while supplying power to the headlights and optional electrical accessories. The tractor carries 3.3 gallons of gasoline, and its wide filler opening is positioned on the left fender for convenient refueling. An electronic fuel gauge on the dashboard allows the operator to monitor fuel level from the seat.

The X370 is equipped with a 42-inch Accel Deep™ 42A mower deck manufactured from durable 12-gauge stamped steel. Its deep, flat-top deck shell creates increased space for grass and airflow, helping process clippings efficiently while maintaining a clean and even cut in normal, tall, or dense grass.

The deck supports three primary mowing configurations:

Cutting height can be set through 13 positions ranging from 1 to 4 inches, with precise quarter-inch increments. The mower returns to the preset height each time it is lowered, helping maintain a consistent lawn finish. Two adjustable deck wheels reduce scalping when mowing over mild changes in terrain.

An Exact Adjust system provides convenient access points for accurately leveling the mower deck. John Deere includes an onboard leveling gauge and adjustment tool, stored under the operator’s seat, to help owners maintain correct side-to-side level and front-to-rear deck position.

Unlike many conventional residential lawn tractors, the X370 includes a hydraulic mower-deck lift. The operator can raise and lower the deck with reduced physical effort, making frequent height changes and attachment operation more convenient.

A heavy-duty electric PTO clutch engages the mower blades through a dashboard-mounted switch. This allows the operator to quickly stop or start blade rotation when moving between mowing areas.

The tractor uses a K57 hydrostatic transaxle controlled by John Deere Twin Touch™ forward and reverse pedals. Travel speed and direction can be changed without manually shifting gears, allowing the operator to keep both hands on the steering wheel. The X370 reaches approximately 5.8 MPH forward and 3.5 MPH in reverse.

A dashboard-mounted cruise-control button helps maintain a consistent travel speed across long, open sections of lawn. The transaxle includes cooling fins, a fan, an internal replaceable oil filter, and an internal wet-disc braking system.

One of the X370’s defining features is its hydraulic power steering. This system significantly reduces steering effort and provides smooth control around trees, flower beds, pathways, landscaping, and other obstacles. The tractor has a 22-inch turning radius and uses a large 14-inch steering wheel for comfortable operation.

The chassis is built around a heavy-duty welded-steel frame formed from 12-gauge material and reinforced in critical areas. A strong 9-gauge front bumper and rear hitch plate add structural support, while the nodular cast-iron front axle and replaceable steering bushings provide durability during mowing and attachment use.

Operator comfort is supported by an 18-inch cut-and-sewn high-back seat mounted on adjustable coil-spring suspension. The seat offers 15 fore-and-aft positions across a 6.6-inch adjustment range and can be repositioned while the operator is seated. Optional armrests can be added separately.
